Denver's Park Hill
Park Hill is a vibrant and diverse community in Denver, Colorado, bordered by Colorado Boulevard on the west, East Colfax Avenue on the south, Quebec Street on the east, and East 52nd Avenue on the north. The entire Park Hill neighborhood is located in the area known as East Denver and further divided by the City and County of Denver into three neighborhoods, South Park Hill, North Park Hill, and Northeast Park Hill.
Park Hill has a rich history which dates to 1887 when Baron Alois von Winckler platted the original Park Hill development on 32 acres of land he owned east of City Park. The first homes in Park Hill were offered for sale in 1900. After World War II, residential development increased in the northern part of the neighborhood.
Located on high ground east of City Park, Park Hill remains one of the most coveted neighborhoods in Denver. It is shaded by stately American Elms and shaded thoroughfares with an abundance of mature trees. Many of the neighborhood's first residences were designed by Fisher and Fisher, for decades one of the most distinguished architectural firms in Denver. Several of Denver's most beautiful churches are also found in Park Hill.
Cultural Attractions
Park Hill's international mix of homeowners enjoy walking to some of Denver's finest cultural attractions and shopping. On the west is City Park, home to the Museum of Nature and Science, Gates Planetarium, IMAX Theatre, Denver Zoo, and Municipal Golf Course.
During the summer, children enjoy the "H-2-Odyssey" fountain, situated behind the museum and where the often-photographed view of the Front Range and downtown skyscrapers is located here. Also, during the summer months, many enjoy the free City Park Jazz concert series. "Hot jazz on warm evenings in Denver's premier park." The Denver Zoo and City Golf Course are also just minutes away.
Park Hill is uniquely located and just 10 minutes by car from Downtown, the world-renowned Cherry Creek Mall Shopping District and countless retail stores and restaurants.
Exploring Park Hill
You’ll find residents of the community walking to many of the local shops and restaurants, including Spinelli's Italian Market, the Cherry Tomato, the Park Hill Cooperative Bookstore, and Park Hill Cleaners & Tailors, a cluster of quaint shops on 23rd Avenue.
There’s also a surplus of dining options in South Park Hill, including those on Oneida Street and East 22nd Avenue, including Dang Soft Serve Ice Cream, Torpedo Coffee, which serves locally roasted beans and Esters Neighborhood Pub.
Other longtime favorites to check out are: Cake Crumbs Bakery & Café and the Queen of Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant, the Honey Hill, a welcoming neighborhood cafe and the Fiction Beer Company, which hosts a regular rotation of food trucks to pair with its pints and the Long Table Brewhouse, a small brewery and taphouse serving up craft beer. The Local Butcher (which also has an outpost at the Denver Central Market in Five Points) is ready with an array of cheese, charcuterie, and Colorado-raised beef.
The Park Hill Community Bookstore, and Art Garage are also favorite destinations.
The Greater Park Hill Community (GPHC), a non-profit neighborhood organization formed in 1961, serves as a liaison between local residents and businesses and the City and County of Denver, publishes a monthly newspaper, the Greater Park Hill News, operates a Youth Jobs Program to help young people ages 12–15 find summer jobs and also sponsor an annual home tour in the fall, The Greater Park Hill Home Tour, which has been held for the past 30 years.
